The GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Biologicals group inaugurated its new building in Wavre, baptised “Odyssey” and aimed at becoming the GSK general world headquarters for vaccinations. This involves an 80 million Euro investment.
The site offers 20,000 square metres of offices for 1,000 work places. The general directorate and the organisations which, for each line of vaccinations, coordinate the clinical, regulatory and commercial activities, will be grouped together in this building. GSK has invested almost two billion Euros in Belgium over a period of three years.
Out of the 10,000 employees working within the GSK “vaccinations” sector of activity, 7,000 are active today on the group’s three Belgian sites, i.e. Rixensart, Wavre and Gembloux.
GSK Biologicals is experiencing growth equal to approximately 15 to 20% per year, with more than one billion doses produced each year, i.e. 25% of the world vaccination market. The group is marketing a range of more than thirty vaccinations including Synflorix and Cervarix. Approximately twenty other vaccinations are currently under development.
